Technical Requirements for Outlier Courses

In order to successfully enroll and complete an Outlier course, the following technical items are required:

  • Laptop or Desktop Computer
  • Webcam
  • Microphone
  • WiFi
  • Internet Speed of at least 2 Mbps (check your internet speed here)
  • Google Chrome
  • Pop-Up Blocker Disabled

While many of the learning modules can be accessed on a tablet or mobile device, you will need a laptop or desktop computer to complete exams and use word-processing software to author writing assignments. If you do not own your own computer, we suggest that you find an alternative source to borrow a computer for these critical assessments. Past students have had success borrowing a device from a friend or family member or visiting the computer lab at their local library.

Note: not having access to sufficient technology is not an extenuating circumstance for an exam or assignment extension.

All exams are proctored to ensure that all students adhere to Outlier's Academic Integrity policy. For learners in 7- and 14-week courses and remote learners in 39-week courses, exams are proctored using online technology. This technology requires additional disk space and processing power - learn more in this article: Preparing for Your Exam

iPads, tablets, and cell phones do not meet our requirements and cannot be used to complete Outlier courses.
