Proctorio Issues

We use Proctorio to ensure academic integrity for all Outlier exams. Read this article to learn how to solve your Proctorio issues, how to get in touch with Proctorio, and troubleshooting steps for Proctorio in general.

Online Proctoring

Whenever you begin an exam, you will use our proctoring partner, Proctorio.

Students will be required to complete a setup and verification process before they will be allowed to begin an exam.

Login Credentials

You will not need login credentials to access Proctorio’s exam proctoring software. Instead, you will be automatically logged in when you click “Start” on your exam.

If this is your first time accessing Proctorio, you'll be prompted to download the Proctorio Chrome Extension for your browser. After you complete this step, follow the instructions on the screen to set up Proctorio.

You will be prompted to show a photo ID before you begin, so be sure to have one handy. For more information about acceptable forms of ID, refer to this article.

Exam Access

Exam proctoring is available 24/7 during the exam windows. Exams windows open at 12 pm Eastern Time on the open date and close at 12 pm Eastern Time on the close date. Please refer to your course schedule for the exam open and close dates.

We recommend that you do not wait until the last minute to take your exam! Be sure to start your exam as soon as you are ready within the window.

We have seen in the past that taking exams last minute could lead to lower scores, so be sure you are prepared! At the very latest, take the exam no later than 1 hour before it closes to allow yourself enough time to complete it.

Technical Issues

Not Loading?

If your Outlier exam is taking an unusually long time to load, you may need to exit the browser and try some of the troubleshooting steps below.

Even though they seem small, all of these steps have proven to resolve Proctorio issues for students in the past!

Please complete all steps below before returning to your exam:

  • Make sure your device meets Proctorio’s technical requirements. Reach out to us if you do not have a device that meets these requirements. You will be unable to take the exam on an incompatible device.
  • Log out of your Outlier account and log back in.
  • Make sure your Google Chrome browser is up to date. Click here for directions.
  • Restart your computer.

If you have to use a VPN to connect to the internet, we recommend you temporarily disable it. This particular technology violates Proctorio’s system requirements. If your VPN is necessary for an internet connection, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss other options.

If you are using a mobile hotspot, please ensure that access to this hotspot is password protected.

When you return to the exam, you will be prompted to reinstall the most up-to-date version of Proctorio.
