College Writing I AND College Writing II

  • In these courses, there will be written assignments each week.
  • Instead of multiple-choice midterms and final exams, students complete written essay exams to demonstrate their mastery of the course content.
  • Written assignments given each week often scaffold and help you to build toward the essay exams.

Introduction to Philosophy AND Introduction to Business

  • In these courses, written assignments must be submitted throughout the semester.
  • Midterm exams are in multiple-choice format.
  • Final exams will be replaced with final papers, and the course assignments will scaffold and help you to build toward the essay exams.

Introduction to Sociology

  • In these courses, written assignments must be submitted throughout the semester.
  • However, no writing will be asked for midterm and final exams, as they will be in the typical multiple-choice format.

Deadlines

Unlike assignments in other courses in the Outlier catalog, written assignments are not designed to be submitted at your own pace. Written assignments are due at a set time, and failure to submit the assignment results in a 0 unless an extension has been granted.

Students who choose to audit a writing-intensive course have the option to submit written assignments for grading, just like their credit-seeking peers. However, audit students are not bound to the same submission deadlines; audit students may submit writing assignments any time between the course start and end date to be evaluated by our graders.
